Fast Search & Transfer
Technical Writing
Fast Search & Transfer was a Norwegian company that produced Fast Data Search, an enterprise-scale search engine. Fast Search & Transfer was eventually purchased by Microsoft and Fast Data Search became Microsoft Enterprise Search, which later became the search engine that powers Bing.
I documented the Fast Data Search connector modules for relational databases and content management systems. I evaluated numerous authoring tools as alternatives to Framemaker/Acrobat and traveled to Norway to work with the engineering group in Oslo.
Fast Data Search documentation was produced in PDF only. The company did not want to invest in the tools or expertise needed to produce HTML-based documentation.
