Migrating Mailings to Campaign Builder 7

When you migrate from Campaign Builder 5 or Content Management System to Campaign Builder 7, the features of Campaign Builder 7 that are visible depend on the permissions assigned to individual users. e-Dialog sets these permissions for you. When you migrate from Campaign Builder 5 to Campaign Builder 7, the migration process assigns the equivalent Campaign Builder 7 permissions to users. If you encounter issues related to the Campaign Builder 7 features that you can use, please contact your e-Dialog Account Team.

Migrating mailings

To be able to use Campaign Builder 7 to modify or clone mailings created using either Campaign Builder 5 or Content Management System, you migrate them to Campaign Builder 7. When you migrate to Campaign Builder 7, either your e-Dialog Account Team can perform the migration of mailings for you or you can do it yourself.

Migrating a mailing to Campaign Builder 7 is not reversible. When you have migrated a mailing to Campaign Builder 7, you cannot work with it in Campaign Builder 5 or Content Management System.

Because of this, before migrating a mailing to Campaign Builder 7, e-Dialog suggests that you clone the existing mailing in either Campaign Builder 5 or Content Management System, whichever application you use to manage and create mailings. Then, when you migrate the mailing, if you need to work with the mailing in Campaign Builder 5 or Content Management System, you can work with the cloned version.

You cannot migrate a mailing that:

  • Has already been sent to customers

If any cell in the mailing has been sent, you cannot migrate the mailing to Campaign Builder 7. Instead, you can clone the mailing, and then migrate the cloned mailing.

  • Is of cell type newf2f, rental, trigger, or insight trigger
  • Contains no cells

You do not have to migrate all your mailings to Campaign Builder 7 at once.

To migrate a mailing to Campaign Builder 7:

  1. In Campaign Builder 5 or Content Management System, identify the mailings you want to migrate to Campaign Builder 7.
  2. Clone the mailings you want to migrate.
  3. Determine in which campaign(s) in Campaign Builder 7 you want to put the mailings you are migrating.
  4. Start Campaign Builder 7.
  5. When the Campaign List page appears, click Migrate Old Mailings.
  6. For each mailing you want to migrate to Campaign Builder 7, click Convert from CB5 or Convert from CMS, depending on the button that appears for that mailing.

Campaign Builder 5 mailings that were cloned do not list values in the Added By or Status columns. Those values appear only after you have saved the mailing in Campaign Builder 7.

  7. Select the campaign in which you want to put the mailing and click Go.

The migration process generally takes 2 to 5 seconds per cell. If you use dynamic publishing in a cell, the migration process takes about 5 seconds. Thus, if your mailing contains twelve cells that use dynamic publishing, the migration process might take about a minute.

  8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 for each mailing you want to migrate.

When the migration process is complete, you should ensure that the migrated cells appear as expected. Some of the areas to check include:

  • The mailing categories that appear in the Mailing Setup page in Campaign Builder 5 appear on the Mailing List page in Campaign Builder 7
  • Mailings whose content is based on JOINs might not be migrated and might need to be updated manually by a Campaign Developer
  • Links that appear as a pound sign (#) followed by numbers in Campaign Builder 7, appear correctly in the proof e-mails. However, to edit the link, you locate the content object in which the link appears, and then open that object in the Content Library.
  • A pound sign (#) in both the Format and Target fields represents an in-page link.
