Specifying Symbol Default Value

The Default field is available for the following symbol data types:

Data Column, Content Case and String Case

Usually, there is a database value available for each symbol sent to each e-mail recipient. For example, if the greeting of an e-mail contains the instrinsic symbol _FIRSTNAME__, each recipient gets an e-mail that contains his or her first name. However, if the client data does not include a recipient's first name, the symbol is replaced with the default value that you specify.

For example, you can specify Valued Customer in the Default field for _FIRSTNAME__. Whenever the data column has no value, the greeting appears as "Dear Valued Customer,".

For Content Case (and Content Constant) symbols, you can choose a content object from the Content Library by doing the following:

  1. Click the content object icon to open the Content Library.
  2. If necessary, use the Search pane to find the content object you want to use.
  3. Click a content object to select it.
  4. Click Done.

Content Constant and String Constant
