Technical Writing

SilverStream's products consisted of a J2EE-based application server, an integrated set of Web development tools, and enterprise data connectors. I wrote documentation for exteNd Director, Silverstream's J2EE and Web Services-based portal development platform.

Novell, Inc. acquired SilverStream  in 2002. At that time Novell was an American multinational software and services company headquartered in Provo, Utah. Novell was then purchased as a wholly owned subsidiary by The Attachmate Group, which was in turn acquired in 2014 by Micro Focus International. Novell products and technologies are now integrated within various Micro Focus divisions.

The eXtend Director documentation set was a collaborative effort in which any writer could edit any other writer's work. For that reason it's difficult to isolate and present material I wrote from scratch. This is only a partial list.

The eXtend Director documentation set was published in HTML format only. No PDF was produced. The Web-based documentation frameset had a full-time software developer assigned to it. Because of the way the frameset was constructed, there are no cover pages to link to.

Getting Started (entry point to the complete documentation set)
QuickStart (entry point for experienced J2EE developers)
Core Development Guide (various chapters and sections)
Portal Guide (various chapters and sections)
User Management Guide (almost entirely original)
